That's got to be a winning combination for any serious RACER or ROK HARD basher.
As most owners of HPI baja 5b, 5t and 5st will agree, the steering and braking function quickly deteriorate in a new car and eventually become a sloppy, low performing mess. We don't hate the original set-up when they are brand new but give them a few hours of track abuse and you will be screaming for a SymSteerTM, we guarantee it!
Designed on a racetrack by racers with proven push/pull symetrical dual linkage design, the Symsteer transforms your basher baja into a race-bred machine. Reliability and accuracy is improved immensely and steering servo efficiency is multiplied by a factor of Awesome to make your baja steer like a precision race car.
Accept no immitation. Our products are made with high grade Aluminium to exact tolerances for a precise fit.
We do not use cast aluminium that's been surface machined to trick you into thinking you're buying strong billet alloy. Symsteer is supplied with custom made specialty CNC parts from billet and sheet alloy, heavy duty stainless steel linkages and turnbuckles and all the sundry items you will need to make it work first time. It is Plug'n'play after installing your servos, NOT plug'n'trip-to-the-hobby-shop to buy a bunch of parts that were not included. We designed this for the hobbyist largescaler to install easily without the need for an engineering degreee and specialized tools. When You buy a ROKrc product you are buying from Genuine Innovators who want you to stand on the podium with our products on-board.
Check out the video's. Our Competition SymSteerTM steering and braking system totally rethinks the controls of your largescale HPI baja and offers you an easy to install package of engineering enhancements and race tuned improvements.
"Some might call it overkill, we call it competition-kill." In a race you need every reliability and perfomance advantage you can get your hands on. The dual brake/throttle servo turns that idea into reality. We separate rear brakes from throttle. In a standard car without SymSteerTM the throttle servo must push on the throttle linkage and also pull on the brake cam lever. Known to be unreliable, the original throttle/brake linkages usually get caught up on the air filters after a while and generally don't work as they were intended. Also, the fact that we run front brakes on our race cars we knew it was an absolute must to have brake bias adjustment and brake mixing capability to eliminate brake-induced understeer. Even if you don't currently run front brakes you can be rest-assured in the knowledge that SymSteerTM is forward compatible with many competition level front brake systems.
What's the point of having an expensive set of front brakes if they don't improve lap times?. With SymSteerTM, front brake bias and mixing capability give you improved braking and turn-in performance. Your throttle servo is releived of rear braking duties and it can now operate front hydraulic master cylinders or *front cable operated brakes if you choose to install them. If you don't run front brakes then your throttle servo is just that - a throttle servo! It will be under very little stress and should function long after your (non-Symsteer) competitors have had rear brake servo failures. (*Front Cable brakes are not all 100% compatible and may require some improvisation to work). Front Mechatech hydraulic brakes are compatible with Symsteer with the use of a slightly longer connecting rod. Available in the Symsteer spare parts section.
Note: it is also possible to flip over the top plate and run single throttle brake servo with some linkage modifcation but we simply prefer the dual servos and recommend that set-up straight out of the box because it works extremely well.
Rear brakes are now controlled via a third servo using a heavy guage cable sourced from the bicycle industry. We seriously thought about using RC specific bowden cables but we opted against that for three reasons. 1. Cost., 2. Strength 3. Availability. We use bicycle grade stainless steel 'gear-cable' which is very strong and can be readily sourced from a local bike shop, so you need not fret the day before a race if you ever want to replace the brake cable. RC cables are more flexible we admit that but we wanted strength and reliability and therefore chose the larger guage bike industry cables.
Our aim is to help you win races - not make it hard for you to get to the start line. In the spirit of this ideology you will also note that we do not include a power switch and do not recommend using them for racing if you can avoid it. We use good quality battery plugs, 14g or 12g multistrand power leads and simply switch our cars on or off via the battery plugs. That is our best advice to avoid DNS and DNF race results due to switch failures. We recommend full size Deans Ultra plugs, or 4mm bullet connectors for power supply. We also recommend using use a multi strand wire 14ga which is thicker and far more robbust than conventional servo leads.
With Symsteer your battery is convenienently located in an easy access location on a specially designed battery tray. Everything is completely removable with very little effort so you can access and remove the complete Symsteer including the Servo saver extremely easily! Battery compartment will support the size of the original battery but we do recommend that you upgrade to the more modern style of battery like LiFe or LiPo for more constant voltage supply, lighter weight and smaller dimensions. Overall, Lipo's or Life batteries suit our system better because it was designed with them in mind and they are what we use in our race cars. If you prefer to use NiMH then we ask that you ensure that they are secured well on the tray so that they do not fall out. Remember - the heavier the battery the more inertia for stopping and accelerating so it is a definite no-brainer for anyone who races baja's to upgrade to lighter and more energy dense batteries. Symsteer battery tray measures 97mm long x 49mm wide, the depth should accommodate most receiver pack batteries up to 35mm in thickness. It was a tight squeeze getting all this performance in such a small area but we did it and we're quite happy with the results. For those expecting a fully enclosed battery - Sorry, we needed quick access to our batteries for racing so the tray was the logical choice. We know you will appreciate this too. It will allow you to run a smaller battery and access it easily for charging or swap it out for a fresh battery between races.

3mm triple servo Alloy top plate (6061 aluminium)
4mm Alloy bottom plate with Stainless steel press fit thread insert and plate locators
4mm alloy adjustable size steering servo crossmember

NOTE: PLEASE CHOOSE A SERVO SAVER AND/OR SERVO HORN OPTION WHEN ADDING TO CART. Symsteer is listed here without a servo saver or full length servo horn. Options for for these additional items are available above the Add to cart button. If you do not wish to purchase a servo saver (perhaps you already own one) or do not require a full length servo horn then simply leave the 'options' blank.
Note: Symsteer will be supplied with correct length stainless steel servo turnbuckle linkages to suit the Symsteer system. They are not supplied from FG or Elcon with correct length servo turnbuckles to suit Symsteer.
Also, HPI steering turnbuckles connecting the servo saver to the front wheel hub are too short to be used effectively with the push/pull style system. Symsteer supplies longer steering turnbuckles in high strength Stainless steel to replace these original alloy items. We have added these items into the symsteer kit so that you can be certain that you will have the correct parts for an easy build. This is part of the ROK philisophy. Please support us because we are innovators - not immitators. There are far too many unscrupulous companies selling sub-standard cloned product off to you (the consumer) and billing it as race quality. The only way you can be more certain of race quality is if you buy your tuning parts from fellow racers. ROKrc races Baja and we race them hard. You can be certain of that.
